Online Learning Information

With the move to Online Learning for some year levels at the start of the 2022 school year, please refer to the guidelines below to assist students’ engagement with their Online Learning during this time.

Whilst Online Learning is taking place, it is mandatory for all secondary students to log into Daymap and navigate to the class page for each lesson at the scheduled class time, awaiting teacher instruction. Students need to navigate to the relevant class page and indicate they are online by clicking the "I'm Online" button on the top right of the class page. Please note this button is only displayed during the scheduled class time.

For those year levels participating in Online Learning, students of essential workers who being supevised onsite, are required to engage with Online Learning in the same capacity as those students who are learning from home.

IMPORTANT:
Please be advised that email will be the main method of communication home from The Heights School to notify parents of any updates.
We recommend you check your email address which is registered with the school regularly. If you need to update your registered email address, please contact the school on 8242 8900 between the hours of 8:30am – 3:00pm.

Primary Years

Parent Guidelines

  • Support your child’s learning and monitor their engagement in tasks
  • Check Class Dojo or Daymap daily for communication from the teacher (depending on the platform used), please ensure you check in – for example click like on Class Dojo posts
  • Provide structure and routine for your child and stick to regular sleep patterns
  • Allow opportunities for your child to engage with tasks set by teacher
  • Allow for healthy food breaks, movement breaks and opportunities for outside learning when possible
  • Contact the teacher if you require further guidance and support for your child
  • Regularly check the Daymap Parent Portal, which can be accessed at:

Student Guidelines

  • Engage with all tasks
  • Submit online learning tasks when required
  • Connect to real-time online lessons if they occur when possible
  • Actively participate in group discussions/collaboration
  • Ask for help when unsure
  • All school behaviour expectations apply for online learning

Secondary Years

Student Guidelines

Daily Routine

  • Whilst Online Learning is taking place, it is mandatory for all secondary students to log into Daymap and navigate to the class page for each lesson at the scheduled class time, awaiting teacher instruction
  • On their Daymap class pages, students are required to indicate they are online by clicking the "I'm Online" button on the top right.
    Please note this button is only displayed during the scheduled class time
  • Be checking your Daymap messages, class notes and school emails regularly during school times
  • Ask your teacher for help if you are unsure of any tasks or intructions
  • Complete tasks set for that day or continue working on tasks set for the week
  • Submit online learning tasks when required
  • Connect to real-time online lessons on time
  • Be located in appropriate study spaces
  • All school behaviour expectations apply for online learning
  • It is recommended students take a 5 minute break away from screens every hour or so and for the entirety of scheduled break times

Real-time Online lessons - students are expected to:

  • Respectfully engage with teachers and peers
  • Actively participate in group discussions/collaboration
  • Students behaving inappropriately online will be removed from the live forums and parents contacted as required

Submission of Assessments - students are expected to:

  • Submit drafts for teacher feedback via Daymap (or appropriate method/platform) by the due date
  • Submit final versions of summative work via Daymap (or appropriate method/platform) by the due date
  • Contact the subject teacher via email at least two days prior to the due date if an extension is being requested
